Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect
We only collect what we need to run events and grade fairly:
- Account details — your name and email address, your role (participant, moderator, admin), and the events you register for.
- Submissions — the code and prompts you submit, the languages used, run / grading results, scores, and timestamps.
- Usage & device data — basic technical data such as your browser, approximate activity on the platform, and aggregate analytics used to keep the service working and improve it.
- Cookies — used for login data to keep you signed in.
2. How we use your information
- Create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- Run your submissions, grade them against test cases, and rank you on event leaderboards.
- Send you essential, event-related email (for example, email verification). We don’t send marketing spam.
- Detect abuse, enforce fair play, and keep the platform and its competitions honest (see “Automated analysis & AI detection”).
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
3. Automated analysis & AI detection
Alongside standard test-case grading, submissions are analysed by our own machine-learning models to estimate how much of an answer was produced using external AI tools. Where a submission is flagged, a score multiplier or adjustment may be applied to your points. These signals are reviewed at the organiser’s discretion, and the Event Coordinator and Faculty Panel make the final decision on any score change. The details of the detection models, prompts, and scoring methodology may not be disclosed.
4. Cookies & analytics
We use one strictly-necessary session cookie to keep you logged in; without it, you can’t use your account. We also use aggregate analytics to measure traffic and improve the product. We don’t use cookies to sell your data or build advertising profiles.
5. Data retention
We keep your account and submission data for as long as your account is active and as needed to maintain event history, leaderboards, and results. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data at any time; some records may be retained where needed for security or to preserve the integrity of past competitions.
6. Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing [email protected]. We’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe.
7. Security
Passwords are stored hashed, sessions are signed and http-only, and access to administrative tools is role-restricted. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
8. Eligibility
Code Arena is intended for students and event participants. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Code Arena after changes means you accept the revised policy.
10. Contact
For any privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
